Geo's flexibility and willingness to work extra decreased the workload of her peers and allowed everyone to provide quality care at the bedside.
Nursing often offers support simply by providing comfort, a hand to hold, a listening ear, or even sharing our knowledge of what to expect with a patient's disease process or diagnosis. Everything changed with COVID, due to the limited knowledge of how the disease process would go and what to expect. Nurses became the families of patients, as families could not visit. Geo stood out with her infectious laugh and generous heart, which brought positivity to the unit and comfort to the patients. This nurse exemplifies everything that a DAISY Award Honoree should possess. She was one of the most recognized staff on the night shift by her peers and patients. She has worked numerous extra shifts to help with the staffing needs of the unit. Her flexibility and willingness to work extra decreased the workload of her peers and allowed everyone to provide quality care at the bedside. She, along with her co-workers, has spent a significant amount of time at the bedside caring for COVID patients. Geo Gallego is a great resource in our unit. We appreciate her positivity, her dedication to our patients and team, and her laugh!
