We had a very young female stroke patient come into our ED and Gerianne was the Primary nurse for the patient. The ED team did an amazing job of doing an NIH scale that was 15, getting her to CT and all of those other benchmarks that we watch so closely because time is of the essence in helping to get these tests and treatments done quickly. TPA was advised by the SOC and given within 41 minutes. The patient was then transported via our Critical Transport crew to St. Mary's for further tests and treatments.
Thankfully, the feedback from St. Mary's was that her NIH was then a 1 and the patient was responding beautifully to our treatment and care. This is the quote from the Patient: "Gerianne saved my life. I was so scared and she held my hand the entire time." Her team member said "Gerianne gave her what medicine couldn't that was reassurance, love, and a calm presence to focus on at a time when she needed it most."
This is at the Center of our Professional Practice Model: Caring. Gerianne exemplifies Caring at the bedside every day. Good Help is Gerianne Beckwith and we are fortunate to have her in our ED.
