Gina placed the baby in a beautiful silk gown and performed what was the sweetest, most heart-felt baptism for this baby and family. Gina even involved the older brother of the baby in the moment by allowing him to hold the candle during the baptism.
Gina was the Resource Nurse in NICU this night. She was called by Labor and Delivery to come to the bedside of a mom who had just delivered a 31-week baby girl. The labor was induced as the baby was known to have kidneys which were not developed. This was an induction for palliative care as the baby's condition was not compatible with life.
When the baby was born, the mother of the baby requested the baby be baptized before she passed away. Gina had taken it upon herself, for these situations, to be certified to do emergency baptisms and palliative care. Gina placed the baby in a beautiful silk gown and performed what was the sweetest, most heart-felt baptism for this baby and family. Gina even involved the older brother of the baby in the moment by allowing him to hold the candle during the baptism. The mother expressed her gratitude as she felt relieved the baby was able to be baptized, and she was then able to hold her baby girl until she passed away. All involved expressed that it was such a beautiful ceremony and were touched by the experience.
Gina exemplifies compassion and empathy in not only Nursing, but in Humanity. Gina was able to touch the hearts of the family and make what I am sure is the worst day of their lives a little less painful. I know when they remember this day, they will always remember the reverence, love, and compassion shown by Gina Busgano.
Gina has a passion for Neonatal Nursing and is a living example of pure empathy. She has the ability to bring peace and calmness to hectic, chaotic, and sad situations. She is an amazing nurse, co-worker, leader, and friend. We are so blessed to know her and privileged to be able to work with her. Because of Gina, this family can now grieve the loss of their beautiful little girl with some peace and comfort. Because of Gina, this world is a better place.
Thank you, Gina, for all you do and for all you are!
