She was always so positive. Giulia made sure that my days under her care were comfortable and productive.
The first morning I awakened after moving from the ICU to the Surgical Oncology floor, nurse Giulia Johnson was there. I was at my lowest, struggling with a NG tube and having not eaten for four days. Giulia's cheerful outlook and encouragement gave me the inspiration to stay positive.
Giulia removed the NG tube later that first morning. Every day after that during my stay (except for one day off for her) she was my daily inspiration from 7:00am to 7:00pm.
She greeted me every morning at the start of her shift and asked if she could do anything else for me at the end of her shift. Giulia provided her phone number so that I could reach her anytime that I needed her. Even though Giulia had many other patients, she was always available to me and present. I rarely had the need to call Giulia because she checked on me many times a day.
Giulia encouraged me to start with small steps to get out of bed and get some movement and walking in order to get my body on the road to healing. She stayed by my side, walking with me and engaging me in good conversation. She aided me when I needed to try and start using the bathroom, while also providing me with privacy and dignity. Giulia was so gracious as she provided me with catheter care as well as helping to bathe me daily with warmed cloths. She made sure that my linens were clean every day.
My last day in the hospital was a hectic one, requiring CT scans and catheter removal and abdominal drain removal. The day ran long. Giulia helped me into the wheelchair and made sure that I was warm and comfortable to be taken to the CT scan. Giulia remained diligent, checking on my CT results which would decide my discharge. Working very close to the end of her shift, she got my CT results and ensured with the doctor that my drain was removed. Giulia helped gather all my things and walked me out to our car.
I was so fortunate to have Giulia Johnson as my nurse. She treated me as if I was her only patient. She was never rushed or short tempered or out of sorts. She was always so positive. Giulia made sure that my days under her care were comfortable and productive.
I am sure that any patient that Giulia provides care for is extremely fortunate. She is a DAISY nurse for her professionalism and her genuinely caring spirit.
