Glen Hopkins is a PRN nurse for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Dallas campus. Since rejoining Children's in 2018 Glen has been recognized by multiple staff members, families, and patients for his demonstration of all of the Children's core values.
Glen has an extremely positive attitude. Regardless of patient acuity, difficult float assignments, or assignment changes, he strives to provide the best care possible for our patients. He is a selfless servant in every sense of the word. During the most challenging times, you can always look to Glen for help and he will respond willingly with a smile on his face.
On one occasion, he was quick to recognize a patient decompensating from another room. He heard a monitor alarm, ran to the source, and discovered a patient desaturating while the patient's nurse was busy in the other room. He immediately discovered the issue, corrected it, and prevented the patient from further decline. When he was recognized for this his response was he was just doing his job, further demonstrating unwavering integrity.
On another occasion, Glen was floated to the NICU. He embraced his patients and families there with a smile on his face. A family recognized him for going above and beyond by making them feel comfortable in the hospital. They wrote a note saying how they will never forget him and were very appreciative of his kindness and willingness to teach them what they needed to know about their baby. In my experience, being remembered forever by a family member is a pretty special thing.
As his supervisor, I receive kudos regarding Glen every shift he is working. Glen is humble, respectful, and serves as a champion for all patients. For these reasons and more, Glen should be recognized for his display of the four Children's Values: Selfless Service, Passionate Advocacy, Commitment to Excellence, and Unwavering Integrity.
