As an Advanced Practice RN, Glenna advocated for the needs and wishes of a patient, to ensure all of the patient's wishes were honored with the plan that was set in motion in the presence of a poor prognosis.
Glenna came and saw an elderly female patient, listened to her, and discussed her wishes, explained adverse effects regarding withholding treatments, and what the prognosis would be. Glenna led by example in modeling the conversation and together sharing bedside handoff with her colleague, who was to continue on with the care of the patient in the routine shift change. The patient, family and both nursing providers were all on the same page with a clear understanding of the patient's wishes, and what to expect as a result of her decisions because of Glenna's actions.
"Glenna went above and beyond, making it possible for someone to pass with dignity and respect. She refrained from emotions at the bedside and provided the patient and family with what I consider "World Class Care."
