Greg was nominated for the DAISY Award by his management team for his work with Covid-19 patients earlier this year. He stepped up when we needed him the most and put in countless hours caring for all of our patients but in particular those suffering with Covid-19.
In March of this year, I put out text messages letting everyone know that Pioneer would be accepting Covid-19 patients to help area hospitals. I tried to honor the personal preferences of the staff, but one person said that he didn't really want to but would if we needed him.
All I heard was "yes" and started scheduling Greg accordingly. The first few nights I actually got to work side by side with him. Those first few nights were probably the hardest, we were learning on the fly the best way to care for the heavily sedated patients, obtain consents from anxious family members, limit exposure while navigating PPE, and working as a team when we were used to having our own patients. This nurse never complained, is calm, cool, and collected by nature, and was more than willing to help fill open shifts if he could, all while keeping his sense of humor.
His level of compassion and dedication to nursing is why Greg Aude is being awarded the DAISY Award for excellence in nursing.
