I spent most of my day upset and frustrated that labor wasn’t progressing, but Greta was always there with words of encouragement and even with the sweetest hug when my emotions got the best of me, and I broke down.
I am so incredibly lucky that I had Greta as my nurse during my labor and delivery! It was not an easy induction in any sense, and it was medically necessary, which added another layer of stress. I first met Greta a couple of days before my induction, after a night in triage that turned into an overnight hospital stay for fetal monitoring. My husband had to leave for work early the following morning, leaving me alone until Greta showed up. We immediately hit it off and I felt immediately supported and comforted while going through something so stressful on my own.

Once my induction had begun, I spent the night making little progress and I was immediately comforted when Greta walked into my room as the nurse the next morning. I spent most of my day upset and frustrated that labor wasn’t progressing, but Greta was always there with words of encouragement and even with the sweetest hug when my emotions got the best of me, and I broke down.

The next day she was by my side again. I was finally making progress until my baby stopped tolerating labor and was having terrifying decelerations. Greta rushed into action to prep me for an emergency cesarian, all while reminding me that I had done so well and this in no way meant I was a failure. She was the first to bring my baby to me during surgery, and did everything in her power to help my baby when he had low blood sugars in the recovery room. After learning my baby ended up in the NICU, she even came to my room on the postpartum unit to see how I was doing.

I would not have been able to do any of it – induction, labor, c-section, or recovery – without Greta by my side. She is an outstanding nurse and person who deserves to be recognized! patient
