Overall, the level of care my wife received was outstanding; however, there was one nurse who stood out from her peers based upon her care she provided to my wife. Halley Graber exemplified "the meaning of care". Her technical skills as an RN were top notch, but it was her one-on-one skills as a human being that set her apart. It was obvious that she truly cared for my wife's well-being, her level of pain, and her general state of mind. Halley quickly became someone that we trusted and whom we were glad to see when her smiling face came through the door.
For example, my wife became violently ill minutes after taking Percocet for pain, although Halley rushed to get her some nausea medication to stave off the urge to vomit...it was too late. Many nurses would have said "sorry....but nothing can be done for the next four hours". Not Halley, she proceeded to find non-medication alternatives such as hot packs and her own positive attitude to help get through those four hours of significant pain.
As you probably know, people like Halley, who are on the front lines of healthcare delivery, are truly the face of Methodist. Methodist can rest assured knowing that nurses like Halley are representing them well in an increasingly competitive industry. As a side note, we want you to know that we truly appreciated the follow up card that was hand signed with well wishes from the nursing staff. This added personal touch made the difference in the card being one to be displayed. This was where my wife was able to go back and remember each individual that had signed the card and recall the outstanding care she received from them.
