Hanna is absolutely exceptional! When she enters a room to welcome or care for one of our oncology patients, a halo of empathy, warmth, and genuine kindness surrounds her, filling the space and immediately being felt by our patients.
Hanna is very experienced, having worked in elder care, then shifting to Minor James Clinic and subsequently to Swedish Medical Center in Seattle. She thankfully came to EvergreenHealth where she was a nurse on 5 Silver developing depth in acute care management and cardiac care.
Recently, a very experienced DAISY Nurse in Radiation Oncology was visiting her mother while she was an inpatient on 5, under Hanna’s care. She commented that Hanna’s warmth, empathy, kind touch, and thoughtful care were extraordinary and that we should approach her to consider taking a position in Radiation Oncology, filling another DAISY Nurse's position as she was retiring. Thankfully, Hanna accepted and has now worked in our department (paired with me) for the past year and a half.
Hanna is absolutely exceptional! When she enters a room to welcome or care for one of our oncology patients, a halo of empathy, warmth, and genuine kindness surrounds her, filling the space and immediately being felt by our patients. The warmth of her smile and personal touch, coupled with her great knowledge, brings comfort and confidence to the patients and their family members and friends. If I am staying behind as she leaves a room, patients uniformly comment on how extraordinary she is.
Hanna has picked up oncology care issues quickly, is very adept at technology (and keeps me afloat) and has a great acute care eye and knows when someone is not doing well and when to seek more emergent attention. Her medical knowledge and management decisions are superb. She is incredibly well organized and never waivers from absolute accountability. Our patients have layers of steps, tests, appointments, consultations, and various therapies, and she keeps track of it all and communicates with patients well in advance. Patients call her (maybe too frequently) because she listens, cares for them, and helps them with their issues.
Even though Hanna has cared for innumerable patients, she genuinely cares and is concerned about each one.
We are blessed with a team of extraordinary nurses in Radiation Oncology, and she stepped in, immediately integrated seamlessly, and is an incredible team player. One of the nurses, who manages one of the doctors' practices, was away recently for some weeks, and Hanna stepped in and spent many hours taking on additional tasks and roles so that all the important work would continue without a hitch.
EvergreenHealth, Radiation Oncology and Halvorson Cancer Center are blessed to have Hanna Kelker as a key team member are caregiver. During my 50 years in medicine, she is hands down, one of the top nurses with whom I’ve had the privilege to work.
