I arrived in the ICU, not because I was seriously ill, but due to exigencies of space, so I had a highly skilled nurse who was in the position of providing mainly comfort care. Far from being bored, Hannah went above and beyond to see that I was as comfortable as possible throughout the day. She is the sort who tailors her interactions to the individual with whom she's dealing, so she could see that my needs were as much emotional as physical during the unexpected and most unwelcome return to the hospital. She opened the shutters wide so I could enjoy the beauty of the storm and appreciate not being out in it! When I learned we's lost power at home and was weeping with guilt and frustration over not being there to help my 85-year-old housemate, Hannah appeared almost magically, offering everything from reassurance to volunteering to arrange a welfare check if I felt it was needed, as she bandaged a sore toe and draped me in a warm blanket!
