Hannah gave positive encouragement, set realistic expectations that helped me to manage the information and situation.
While a patient on 4 South, I was really having a tough time. I had just found out that my hip was infected, and I was going to have an extended hospital stay for IV Therapy. I have anxiety and this news really made me upset.
I was crying in my room and feeling anxious. Hannah sat at my bedside and calmly talked me through it. She gave positive encouragement, set realistic expectations that helped me to manage the information and situation. Hannah showed true empathy as she stated, "I can understand the way you feel". She is just amazing and kind.
If I would ask a question, she would take the time to explain things to me and if she didn't know the answer, she wouldn't ignore me but would go find the answer or speak to a supervisor to get the answer for me. For one example, I was often hungry between meals. Hannah called my provider to see if a snack could be added to my menu, then she bought me crackers and grape juice like it was a picnic which really made it special and fun. This is, in my opinion, above and beyond what she needed to do.
I'm certain it's not in her job description to do these extra things. She very much showed compassion and kept things cool for me. She never looked put out or rushed but provided reassurance and calm. These things seem simple enough, but the extra touch really made me feel like a beautiful person. She treated me with honor, respect, and dignity.
