Hannah’s care for our son within the first 48 hours of his life was unmatched. We couldn’t have asked for a better nurse for our first NICU experience. Our son was born with a right-sided CDH, and one of the first conversations the attending neonatologist had with us was about preparing for any outcome- including death. I immediately started crying and asked the doctor if he was a Christian, and he replied yes. I asked him to pray over our baby, and Hannah joined in without any hesitation. She knew our faith was important to us during this time, and that small act of kindness set the tone for the rest of our NICU journey. She met us where we were and understood that she needed to care not only for our baby but also for us as parents. When we couldn’t or didn’t know how to advocate for him, she stepped right in, even shooing unnecessary people away when he seemed agitated. It’s like she knew how to communicate with our baby and read his cues, always making decisions to best serve him. She also shared stories of CDH successes and gave us a lifeline to cling to when we felt so hopeless and confused. She is an equal balance of nurse and bedside support and truly cares about the babies and families she is working with. Hannah was such a blessing, and we are so grateful for her!
