Hazel walked in with such a calming presence, treating my daughter as her own and comforting her throughout the whole process.
My 3-year-old daughter was admitted to KP 1.5 years ago for RSV for about a week. Upon our admission, we had multiple RNs assist with her care, place and replace IVs, and to be quite honest, it was traumatizing for my little one. So, when my daughter was diagnosed with pneumonia and I was bringing her to the ER this time around, I was very, very, scared. I was worried about the need for an admission, the need for an IV, and ultimately, what the outcome would be. What Hazel didn't know was that during my daughter's first admission, it took approximately five attempts from nursing staff to place her IV. Multiple nurses tried areas on my daughter's hands, arms, and feet. THIS was the #1 thing I was worried about during our recent ER visit. When the doctor told me my daughter needed an IV, I was terrified. Hazel walked in with such a calming presence, treating my daughter as her own and comforting her throughout the whole process. Hazel placed the IV successfully the first attempt. For Hazel, it was just another IV, but to me, it meant the world. My daughter ended up being admitted for approximately 1 week, but Hazel influenced how the rest of our admission went. I was so thankful for her to be present that day in that moment in caring for my daughter. What may have seemed like a small, routine, and standard practice was, in fact, the most meaningful moment of my daughter's admission experience. Thank you, Hazel!
