Heather went the extra mile as my mother was a combative difficult patient with delirium and dementia. Heather was able to develop a trusting relationship through talking with Mom about cooking and baking. Heather went up and beyond her nurse duties by listening to my mother and showing interest in her baking. Heather brought in a pie crust, the cherry cheese mixed up for the pie, and the wilderness cherries that topped the pie. Heather put the pie together at my mom's bedside, and my mother was interacting with her, telling her how to build the pie. In the end, my mom ate a piece of the pie, which actually started my mom eating a little food after this event. This certainly created a rapport with Heather, and mom responded well with her - to take pills by mouth and get vitals, etc. Heather used her own time and money to make my mom smile.
