She comforted me while I got a second epidural in the midst of intense contractions, when I was exhausted both physically and emotionally. She cheered me on when I was ready to give up.
When Heather took over the Night Shift of my delivery, she was who was supposed to be at my side. During the day I had a sweet nurse who did not do patient advocacy. As a nurse myself, I went with it accepting the challenges the staff was experiencing that day. What stood out about Heather was that she was my nurse, I was a patient, and she did incredible advocacy for me and my baby. Everything that had been brushed off during the day she took care of and tried to resolve. When things got very difficult for me, she was determined and took charge of the situation, and got the anesthesiologist to come help me. When the pain resumed, she got me help again from the anesthesiologists. She comforted me while I got a second epidural in the midst of intense contractions, when I was exhausted both physically and emotionally. She cheered me on when I was ready to give up. Heather was quick to action when my baby was not liking what was going on, repositioning me and eventually getting the OB because he had to be delivered. She kept the calmness in the room when the OB had been frazzled by the previous case he had delivered. Heather took charge and guided anyone who was there to help me. I was cared for entirely by traveling nurses and Heather stood out as the ONLY nurse with her whole heart and passion for nursing on display. She was committed to her patient, and I would have never guessed she was a traveling nurse because of her commanding presence. Heather is an example of the kind of nurse we should strive to be. To quote my sister, "Heather was the nurse anyone in my situation would have wanted to have. I will be forever grateful to her, for the impact she had on my labor and delivery story."
