My son was injured in an accident. Upon transferring from the Trauma Unit to the Surgical Stepdown Unit, I had the pleasure of meeting Helen Ford. Not only did she give superb care to my son, I observed her give the same superb care to the two other patients in the room with him. I never imagined how much care, attention, and patience that unit requires from those who work there. It became obvious to me that Helen possess all three qualities. She took great strides to ensure that the patients in her care received the very best care. Through her nurturing, loving, compassionate, and creative personality, she made it easy for the patients to relate to her. With Helen's help, prior to leaving that unit my son was brushing his own teeth and suctioning himself, which he preferred doing! I cannot explain how amazed I was at his progress.
The genuine love she has for her patients is displayed far beyond her actions. During her two days off her presence was truly missed. I literally saw the difference when she was there and when she was not. I was able to witness firsthand someone who loves what she does. Therefore, I would be remiss if I did not nominate Helen for the DAISY Award!
