Hubert Aviles has been working in Cardiac Cath lab for 8 years, where he is known to be very cheerful, cooperative, creative and innovative staff nurse. He possesses the core values and mission of King Faisal Specialist Hospital in every patient he serves.
PATIENT FOCUS: He is extremely knowledgeable as a senior staff nurse, very diligent in maintaining standards and professional practice. He always helps his colleagues in the Cath Lab with a positive attitude to maintain patient safety and deliver excellent patient care. He embodies the values of a magnet nurse.
TEAM WORK: As a senior staff he demonstrates a very outgoing personality, very amicable, always extending and supporting the colleagues he works with. Since Cathlab works with staffs from multidiscipline he is known to be very approachable by other team members. As the committee member of retention and recognition for Cathlab and when the department receives a new staff regardless of designation he ensures that he/she is welcomed and is part of the Cathlab team. As Cathlab is known to be a highly stressful area, this individual creates a work-life balance, where he organizes gatherings such as birthdays, anniversaries, baby showers, bridal showers so that the team members get to de-stress themselves and indirectly also we connect with each other.
QUALITY and INNOVATION: A year ago, we were having issues regarding incompleteness of consent for most of the patients. At the same time there were incidences happening, where patients were wrongly or misidentified. As he is known for his creativeness, where he formed a group and had an awareness day for "Patient identification and the importance of consent "which includes on what and how to fill up consent form. There was video shown about patient identification and examples on how to fill up the form which was laminated and distributed to all cardiovascular departments. The awareness day was a success and many participants did response that they would want this awareness to be repeated. This was not only his accomplishment, in 2012 there was a competition to create a 'Thank you card' and he won the main prize as being the best card created.
Knowing him personally, I find him very sensitive and compassionate towards his patient. Being a male gender I've seen him handling female patients very well especially when there was a time where we had a shortage of female staffs. He somehow is able to convince these patients and they also get acquainted quickly. By saying that we also had difficult patients but with his charm and professionalism he is able to persuade them to cooperate with the nurses in the Cath lab. This sort of personality is rarely seen in a human being whom we should recognize.
With all these qualities and his dedication to work which is outstanding, we the staffs in Cath lab believe he truly deserves to be acknowledged for the DAISY Award.
