She has exemplary skills, is the subject matter expert on the unit, shares knowledge, and often is the superuser for training.
I would like to nominate Inderjit Kaur, the ICU Day Shift Charge Nurse. What is impressive about Inderjit is she understands her role when it comes to day-to-day operations and how it affects the patient. She literally has her finger on the pulse for the staff and her patients. She is shoulder-to-shoulder with every patient, nurse, and discipline in the department. When I listen to her communicate information, I can tell she has looked up or investigated details on her own and can recall the information easily which makes her one of the most effective and efficient charge nurses I have ever seen.
She has a strong call to duty and provides endless amounts of service to patients and the TEAM all day long. I always see her in rooms assisting patients and giving compassionate care. Just the other day we had a patient who was yelling and had a difficult time being redirected. She was able to go in there and tend to his needs all the while supporting the nurse who is taking care of a challenging patient.
As a life-long learner, she is pursuing the Palliative Care Course to become a liaison for the organization. She realizes there are gaps in coverage and wants to support patients and families who may need support when they are losing a loved one. She is astute in knowing what equipment is needed in the ICU, what is missing, and what supplies we need should a patient require it. She has exemplary skills, is the subject matter expert on the unit, shares knowledge, and often is the superuser for training.
Finally, her presence on the unit is highly respected. The TEAM is highly aware of how hard she works, and everything she does for the patient, department, and organization. I appreciate her immensely as she supports the patient, TEAM, disciplines. She is a tremendous asset and is the epitome of Nurse Excellence and I am so fortunate I have had the opportunity to work with an amazing nurse.
Note: This is Inderjit's 3rd DAISY Award!
