India exemplifies the insatiable need that nurses have to care for others.
During an active EF-3 tornado in Fultondale, AL on a recent night, with winds up to 150 mph, a 100-year-old oak tree dealt a devastating blow to a home and pinned a patient underneath as he was trying to get his wife and three children to the basement. UAB Nursing Leaders, India Alford and Sherichia Hardy, were a part of the UAB Team that assisted doctors in an in-the-field amputation to save the patient's life.
Sherichia and India shared what a blessing it was and how fortunate they felt to be a part of a team that gave the patient and his family a second chance. This is a great example of what we do and who we are as nurses at UAB. We don't run away - we are always running forward. These two nurses exemplify the insatiable need that nurses have to care for others and for that we are all more blessed they are part of our larger nursing family.
