My brother spent several weeks at St. Vincent and most of that time in the CVTU. He was on ECMO for a week and ventilated. Through all of this, Ingrid was a light to our family. She comforted my mom with her words and connected with her as mothers do, as my brother is only a few years older than Ingrid's son. She told us she took my brother home with her every night and we really felt that was true. She even brought my mom a care package. Ingrid was so knowledgeable about ECMO and taught us about the functions of the machine and kept us informed about what was going on with my brother's progress with ECMO. Even when she was not his direct nurse, Ingrid would come in and check on my brother daily and talk with my family. I speak for my entire family when I say Ingrid was comforting, compassionate and dedicated to my brother's care. We looked forward to seeing her, as it provided comfort knowing Ingrid Berglund was caring for my brother.
