Jack was the critical care nurse that responded to a rapid response call downstairs on our unit. The rapid response quickly turned into a full resuscitation / cart call event for a long-term, ventilated patient. The unexpected occurrence with this patient had a huge emotional impact on the staff involved that night. Jack's compassion during those moments meant more to us than we realized at the time. At the end of the cart call, with the outcome ending differently than hoped, Jack took the time to offer sincere condolences to the nursing staff for the loss of the person they had come to know and love. His genuine response and compassion toward us was greatly appreciated and very necessary at the time. Thank you so much, Jack, for recognizing the needs of the floor nurses and ancillary staff as much as attending to the needs of the patient and family in the moment! It meant the world to all of us.
