My wife was admitted due to a heart attack. She was moved to the 2200 unit where the nursing staff and support services staff went above and beyond on multiple occasions to care for her. However, one nurse really took the time one evening with my wife to care for her. She took the extra care and time to ensure my wife was bathed, hair washed, and all her linens cleaned and changed.
I know these things are things she could have left for the PCT or another shift, but you could tell that Jackie takes real pride in her job and truly cares for her patients. We got the sense that most of the staff working on the 2200 unit are amazing people, so for Jackie to stand out is saying something on that unit. The team did a great job taking care of my wife.
Jackie stood out in this instance, particularly because for starters, her attitude during that shift was always up. We saw her go the extra mile for us, and our understanding is that she went to the ER after that shift ended and had surgery herself after working so hard caring for her patients as she did, all while dealing with her own pain. We see a lot of talk about heroes in the media but Jackie clearly displayed heroic traits to us, and I have a feeling this was not a one-time incident. I think that is just who she is! Thank you, Jackie, you made all the difference in our lives.
