Jackie's care today is a beautiful embodiment of this scripture, showing extraordinary hospitality and compassion in the most tender of moments.
I would like to nominate Jackie Lineberry for the DAISY Award for her exceptional care, compassion, and dedication. Jackie is a supervisor for the 2nd floor and while she consistently advocated for her patients, today I witnessed her go above and beyond in a way that truly exemplifies the heart of nursing. On this particular day, a comfort care patient was on Jackie's floor, one who had been a patient there just a few weeks earlier. The patient's husband was also in a different room on the floor. Jackie had built a strong kinship with their son, and when this patient returned for comfort care, she became the patient's advocate, even though she wasn't the primary nurse. Jackie noticed the patient's fingernail polish was chipped, and with a heart full of compassion, she took it upon herself to give the patient a manicure and pedicure. As she gently applied the polish, she played soft music and spoke with the patient, creating an environment of peace and dignity. With each stroke of her brush, Jackie demonstrated the deepest form of unconditional love. It was a beautiful, almost sacred moment, and I had the privilege of witnessing it. With the family's permission, Jackie gave them a cherished keepsake, a photograph of the patient's hands, with the painted red nails she had lovingly applied. This thoughtful gesture captured a piece of their mother's final moments, preserving a beautiful memory for the family. In addition to her acts of care, Jackie communicated consistently with the son, ensuring he was updated throughout the day as he could not be there. Jackie went further, staying well past her allotted hours to sit with both patient and the son, listening attentively as he shared treasured stories of his mother's life. Jackie gave that family something few are able to experience, peace, love, and presence in a time of profound loss. As it is written in 1 Peter 4:8 "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins." Jackie exemplifies this selfless love in everything she does, bringing comfort to those in need. Furthermore, in Romans 12:13, we are called to "share with the Lord's people who are in need. Practice hospitality". Jackie's care today is a beautiful embodiment of this scripture, showing extraordinary hospitality and compassion in the most tender of moments. Jackie's actions have inspired us all, and she truly deserves recognition for the immeasurable love and care she gives to each patient and their family. I am proud to nominate her for the DAISY Award, as she is a shining example of what it means to be a nurse and a compassionate human being.
