Jaclyn truly made the 48 hours of discomfort worth it because of how smooth the actual delivery was. We cannot even put into words how incredibly grateful we are that we were able to have Jaclyn as our nurse that day.
Jaclyn Bonanno was our wonderful Labor and Delivery nurse on the day shift who helped bring our beautiful boy into the world. My wife went in to get induced on a Friday at 6:30AM with no real progression the first 24 hours. The following 24 hours the induction method needed to be more aggressive which was necessary to get things moving--baby boy was being very stubborn and did not want to move down. On top of not progressing quickly, baby boy also did not have any desire to be monitored. My wife was basically unable to move around freely because of how hard it was for the nurses to pick up his fetal heart rate. My wife was essentially stuck in the very uncomfortable labor bed, unable to use the various exercise balls that would help her progression, unable to move side to side. It was not until Sunday morning, after getting her water broken and the epidural, that she was finally fully dilated. Jaclyn came in at shift change, and we felt an energy shift in the room. She was enthusiastic about the day, her job, and our family. She introduced herself and laid out the plan she had for us for her shift. We felt how passionate she was about her job and how experienced she was. She told us that she saw in the report that the baby boy was sunny-side up and told us that we needed to work on opening up the pelvis to have a smoother delivery. True to her words, she brought out the peanut exercise ball and repositioned my wife every single hour. 3 hours into her shift, my wife was ready to push. With her many years of experience and with having given birth herself, she advised us that pushing while on my wife's side would be the most comfortable and effective. She was super supportive and informative on the breathing process while pushing. Once my wife started pushing, Jaclyn never left our room and was encouraging my wife the whole entire time. Being a first-time mom, we all anticipated a long labor/pushing, but after 4 rounds of pushing, he surprised us all and came right on out. He surprised us a little too well because the midwife had run to get coffee, so it was just me, my wife, and Jaclyn in the room. Baby boy came with his umbilical cord around his neck. Jaclyn was quick thinking, sent me to go get some more nurses in the room, and unwrapped his cord from around his neck. After that, we heard his cry; it was beautiful. My wife only had a small first-degree tear. Jaclyn truly made the 48 hours of discomfort worth it because of how smooth the actual delivery was. We cannot even put into words how incredibly grateful we are that we were able to have Jaclyn as our nurse that day.
