Jackie works in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine as a clinical RN. Over and above is where the bar is set in this division for patient care. Jackie started working on prior authorization paperwork for a CF patient who had an insurance change. Seems simple but it is probably one of the most complicated things that we do. Five specialty medications were delayed being dispensed as Jackie worked to trail insurance and a specialty pharmacy that is connected to that insurance. Over and over the medications were denied. At some point Jackie did get all of the medications approved and dispensed. The process is time consuming and frustrating because the specialty pharmacies have so many layers that the prescription travels thru before being dispensed. No one seems to give you the same answer when we call to problem solve. We as a staff accomplish the impossible on a daily basis but this case was extreme.
Jackie stuck with it over a month before these drugs were dispensed staying late to complete paperwork and phone calls to the pharmacy. Her calm and direction to the other nurses provided exceptional service for this family dealing with this life shortening chronic illness. I nominate Jackie for going over and above on a daily basis. This was just one example of her commitment to the kids.
