Being a nurse involves more than just applying the skills learned in school to daily practice. More often than not, it requires truly listening to your intuition and acting on that gut feeling when something "just doesn't feel right. " That is exactly what Jada Crawford did. A patient was admitted to 4 North with a diagnosis of thrush. This nurse expressed concern that she did not believe the diagnosis was thrush and suggested that a burn be considered. She shared her thoughts with the team and recommended involving the Child Protection team for further evaluation. As a result of this assessment, additional studies were conducted, revealing that the child had multiple leg fractures that were unknown to the medical team and without a known cause from the family. This child and her siblings received a safe discharge because Jada advocated for her patient.
