Jaelyn was also a great confidant and advocate for me with other departments and some of the doctors and staff when I felt I wasn’t getting clear information. She was a straight shooter when I needed it and a great listening ear, also.
I was a patient at Jordan Valley for 3 weeks. I had been in an auto accident. I broke a few bones but also ruptured my mesenteric artery. I received between 30 to 42 pints of blood during my life-saving surgery. I was then sedated and unconscious for 10 days. I spent a total of 3+ weeks in the ICU unit of Holy Cross Jordan Valley Hospital.
To be honest, all of the OR and ICU staff are to be commended for the life-saving care they gave me, but the one that stood out was my nurse in the ICU, Jaelyn. When I woke up after 10 days, Jaelyn was there. She stepped up and took great care of me while I was there. She was also very kind and helpful to my wife and sons whenever they came in to visit. She always wanted them to feel comfortable with my care and explained things clearly and cheerfully to them. She also made calls to my family to keep them up to date on aspects of my care.
As for me, she was there when I needed her and took great care of me, even when I was a less-than-cooperative patient. She was reassuring when I was down and needed a boost. She had a great sense of humor and joked back and forth with me, making me feel like things would be okay. I feel like she was more than my nurse; she was also my friend. Jaelyn was also a great confidant and advocate for me with other departments and some of the doctors and staff when I felt I wasn’t getting clear information. She was a straight shooter when I needed it and a great listening ear, also. I felt like she was absolutely on my side.
During a time when I was on my second week of a restricted diet, we made a deal that when I was able to eat regular food again, we would share a couple of sodas. Unfortunately, I was released from the restricted diet and then from the hospital (on my way to an in-patient rehab hospital) during a couple of days when Jaelyn wasn’t working, and we couldn’t share that soda.
I returned with a gift of cookies for the entire ICU team and a soda for Jaelyn, who turned out to be working that day. She seemed genuinely touched, and I was happy to see my nurse and friend again. As I said, the entire ICU staff was great, but Jaelyn was really exceptional. Please thank her again for me.
