James' knowledge, bedside manner, compassion, and gentle nature are what I loved most.
In the last two months, my mom’s health has deteriorated and we have been in the ER 3x in the last month and a half. Recently, my mom, who is 80, came in with severe abdominal pain. When I arrived I was greeted by James who was caring for my mom. He immediately gave me an update and status of what had been done and what they were doing to do figure out the source of the pain. I appreciated his communication. He showed so much compassion for her. He was kind, gentle when helping her ambulate to the bedside commode. He was very personable and constantly checking in with her and trying to manage her pain. He talked to her as if they were related by joking with her, making her smile, during a time when she was in so much pain, weak and shaky.
We found out she was passing two kidney stones. When giving medications, James took the time to educate me and a CNA who was going to nursing school on what meds were given and why. If he didn't know the answer he found it out.
James definitely made this stressful, difficult and painful time for my mom and me more reassuring, comforting, and calming. His knowledge, bedside manner, compassion, and gentle nature are what I loved most. I knew my mom was in good hands and being well cared for. If ever in the ER again, I hope he is working and will be requesting his five-star nursing skills and professionalism. Thank you, James.
Note: This is James' 2nd DAISY Award!
