Our mother/mother in law was recently a patient at UMass Memorial. Due to the nature of her condition she was admitted to the ICU. Very quickly after admission, we realized that she would not recover and was there for end of life care. Jim was our nurse for a few shifts during this time. She has 6 children, 13 grandchildren, and 22 greats. So several of us were always visiting (some overnight) to ensure that she would not be alone in her final time on earth.
Jim went out of his way to ensure that we were all well informed and comfortable as well as being an incredibly compassionate caregiver to her.
One of the most touching memories was that in the moments after she passed, Jim came into the room, hugged each one of us and gave the sincerest condolences individually to each. It was as if he was part of the family and mourned with us. You are so lucky to have him on the UMass Team. His caring and compassion are representative of why folks get into healthcare. Thanks from the bottom of my heart.
