Professional is the term that comes to mind when thinking about Jay. He was my nurse for 3 of my 13 days in the unit and provided a wealth of information in addition to great care. At the beginning of the stay after major surgery, there were so many things that neither my doctor nor my reading prior to the surgery fully prepared me for. Jay very calmly and professionally explained everything that I was experiencing, about what was most likely to affect my recovery. He was spot on every time, and that provided great comfort to me.
In addition, he, like me, is a big sports fan, and talking sports was a great distraction as I recovered!

My brother was admitted for about two weeks. Jay Doherty was his nurse most of that time. Jay was an excellent nurse, very patient with his wife and “me, his sister.” Although we were a nervous wreck, he talked us through all of the trach care and tube feeding care. He is a very good educator. Jay always showed my brother respect and compassion during this difficult time. Thank you, Jay, for all you did for us, and we won’t forget your kindness.
