James heard some loud discussion in the room of an eleven year-old ICU patient. He went to see if he could help. He found lab in the patient's room attempting to convince the pediatric patient to allow his blood to be drawn. James learned that the patient plays video games and told the patient "You know how sometimes you need special codes to play the game better? Well that's what we need sometimes to care for you better and we do that by running tests on your blood". The patient finally said he would allow it if James went first. James allowed the lab to draw some blood and then the patient cooperated with the lab staff and got his blood drawn.
That's a real example of putting yourself on the line for a patient. Thanks James Houser for consistent, compassionate, competent care of our patients.
