I am honored to nominate Nurse James Latour for the DAISY Award, recognizing his extraordinary compassion and skill in nursing. Faced with a patient overwhelmed by multiple wounds and deep despair, refusing treatment, and expressing a desire to give up on life, James demonstrated exceptional empathy and innovation. Understanding the healing power of connection, James facilitated daily Zoom calls between the patient and her husband, who was admitted to another facility and in weak condition. By implementing the act of listening, he noticed her despair was based on loneliness and the fact her husband was her only support system and caregiver. This act of kindness and ingenuity transformed the patient's outlook. She moved from resistance to cooperation, her spirits lifted, and her wounds began to heal visibly. James's efforts went beyond physical care; he nurtured her spirit and mental well-being, creating a solid bond that significantly impacted her recovery. James Latour exemplifies the best of nursing, showing that healing is not just about treating injuries but caring for the person as a whole. His dedication has not only changed one patient's life but also serves as an inspiring example for all of us in the healthcare profession.
