Their actions were the perfect example of exceptional leadership and compassionate care for my students to witness, and I am so grateful!
I am fortunate to be clinical faculty for undergraduate nursing students on Unit 7W - the Blood and Marrow Transfusion Unit at UF Health Shands. During this week, there was a particularly rough day on the unit, with multiple emergency situations during our shift on the unit. I was so impressed by the incredible actions and engagement of the nurse manager (Jamie Dees) and clinical leader (Dannielle Obermeier) with the students, patients, and fellow nurses! They immediately jumped into helping and supporting their nurses and patients without hesitation by helping assist unresponsive patients back into beds safely, gathering supplies and medications for the staff, and supporting the nurses and nursing students throughout the process (emotionally and via hands-on actions). Their actions were the perfect example of exceptional leadership and compassionate care for my students to witness, and I am so grateful! In many facilities, it is not common for leadership to be so intimately involved and I'm so glad my students were able to witness what true comradery among the unit and how effective nurse leaders act! Actions like these have helped build the wonderful community and support that is found among staff on Unit 7W!
