Jane gave my aunt the immeasurable gift of closure and the opportunity to say goodbye.
On January 30th my aunt found her mother, and my grandmother passed away. She was heartbroken and by the early morning hours of January 31st, she found herself in Union ER with chest pain. she was taken to the Cath lab and later diagnosed with broken heart syndrome. She was told her heart was functioning at 25% and could not leave the hospital until she got a life vest. She was initially told she should be able to get the vest and be home by February 1st, but she later was told that the Zoll life vest company was having worldwide technical issues and it would be 2 to 3 days before she could get one. My grandmother's funeral was scheduled for Friday the 3rd so this meant she would miss her mother's funeral. On Thursday the 2nd Jane Hendrickson was my aunt's nurse. The 2nd just happened to be my grandmother's birthday. Jane was not going to allow my aunt to suffer any more heartbreak and became an advocate and warrior for my aunt. Jane made phone calls, involved the case manager, and refused to give up. My aunt got her life vest on the 2nd and was able to attend her mother's funeral. Jane gave my aunt the immeasurable gift of closure and the opportunity to say goodbye. My words cannot begin to express how grateful our family is to Jane. I am a Union Nurse myself and will do my best to always live up to the example Jane set. Nursing can be a thankless job times, but I want Jane to know her compassion and empathy will never be forgotten, and we are eternally grateful to her for going above and beyond!
