Jane recently cared for a young woman who had suffered a fatal trauma then became an organ donor. She was very unstable and Jane's excellent critical thinking skills ensured that she provided excellent nursing care to meet her complex medical needs. This was a very sad and stressful time for her family as they accepted that their daughter had died and then made the decision to donate her organs to help others. Jane's compassion and empathy helped guide the family through the process and was a great comfort to her mom and siblings. Jane stayed with the family for 2 shifts rarely taking breaks to ensure that the patient physical needs were met and that the family was supported emotionally during this time. When Jane received the feedback of the excellent care she provided to this family, she stated that she felt privileged to have been able to care for her and her family. Jane definitely exemplifies all of the qualities of a DAISY nurse.
