Janet was taking care of a patient and family while the patient was actively dying. Janet went above and beyond by telling the patient's husband that she would sit with the patient so that she wasn't alone and the husband was able to go home and bring the patient's 3 kids ages 8, 11, and 13. He also brought the patient's mother to the unit. This ended up being the last time they saw their mother/daughter. She passed that night. Janet also called the patient's husband's work directly and explained that he needed time off to care for his wife. Otherwise, she would have died alone. Janet's compassion for her patients and their family made an extraordinary difference in the patient's final day.
