Jan is an amazing nurse. I have had the pleasure of working side by side with her since I began my career here at Wentworth Douglass about 15 years ago. At that time I was an LNA and I remember how much I looked up to her for her calm demeanor in stressful situations and her infinite body of knowledge. She is quiet and goes about her day taking care of her patients in every aspect and truly has a holistic mentality when caring for others. She is the first to step up and advocate for a patient, she often will note lab changes or trends with a patient and report it to the doctor to ensure nothing gets missed. I think sometimes the quiet work she does in the background advocating for her patients whether it be with the physician or the rest of the care team easily goes unnoticed. I love the way she talks to her patients, she educates them, and is honest with the facts makes sure they understand what and why we are doing what we are doing but in a way that is not forceful. She has a way of getting patients to comply, perhaps it is the way she is able to use humor in just the right way or her laugh that still makes me smile every time I hear it, even as I sit in my office now writing this. If I could choose anyone to care for a family member of my own it would be Jan, I am confident that she treats all of her patients the way she would treat her own family. I still look up to Jan as a nurse to this day and I believe she encompasses all the qualities of not just an all-around wonderful nurse and person but she embodies what Wentworth Douglass is about.
