All of the nurses on D5E have been exceptional, but Jason Clum far exceeded our expectations. Jason established a strong rapport with my husband, D, immediately and made his stay in Albany Med far more enjoyable. Jason recognized and was sensitive to the fact that D is a strong man who takes pride in his physical work and self-determination. He encouraged autonomy and independence but helped whenever needed. Jason was kind, compassionate, humorous, and dedicated. He always went above and beyond to help us and often without us even asking. For example, my husband expressed his desire to get back to work every day and also talked about all of his power tools. Jason printed a picture of a Sawsall and put it in the room near D. This made my husband's day and the days to follow. Jason was empathetic to my husband's situation and used a kind but firm approach, which was needed. He encouraged D to accept help from not only him butfrom me and other family and friends. After we left Jason's unit, he went out of his way to check in two-three times during his shift.
