I don’t think Jason even knows how much his personality, his light joking with B, his down-to-earth terms, and overall self-presence really helped the entire frightening situation we were facing in that room.
My husband ended up in the CMH Emergency Room due to not being able to ambulate. B (my husband) does not do doctors, emergency rooms or anything medical at all. He hates even hearing anything medical because he does not understand any medical terminology or even technology, for that matter. Scared, nervous, and completely out of his comfort zone, we ended up in the ER for what looked to be a possible stroke or neurological issue, which warranted a transport/admission to Wilson for further testing. However, during our time at CMH we met the nurse Jason, not only am I the patient’s wife/friend but I am also a nurse. I have to say that it is very hard to find a nurse who truly loves what they do, is truly amazing under stress, and still keeps that patient-friendly bedside manner. Jason is absolutely the true definition of a nurse and fits the criteria of all of UHS 5 core values.

The entire time B was under his care, he maintained a very friendly and welcoming demeanor despite all the hundreds of questions B had the nervous babbling he was doing; Jason answered every single question and sat at B’s level, explaining each task Jason was doing. B explained to Jason that he knew nothing medical, and Jason’s response really warmed my heart: “Oh no worry, I will break it all down for you in a way you can understand.” He was a man of his word, explaining in terminology that eased a lot of B’s anxieties. Jason repeatedly checked on B, and despite the very busy ER, he never made B or any of us feel as if he did not have time for us. He was attentive to all B’s needs, and even when B kept bending his arm, occluding his IV line unintentionally, he came in the room smiling and joking and with such a light demeanor to stop the IV pump from beeping and fix the occlusion error.

I don’t think Jason even knows how much his personality, his light joking with B, his down-to-earth terms, and overall self-presence really helped the entire frightening situation we were facing in that room. I know that throughout B’s experience in this whole endeavor Jason has made a wonderful impact on B and will always be remembered for his actions. After I had left, B, who is not at all technologically savvy, did something to his phone; Jason again took the time to sit in the room with B and help him figure out his phone and help him so he could still text and do what he needed to do to keep in touch with family.

I have been to many ERs, and it’s not too often you find someone who isn’t short-staffed and running around trying to do 15 things at once and rolling their eyes with any question asked or where IV pumps are going off for hours with no attention. This was not the case at all with our experience with Jason, and we are forever grateful for that! Jason if this ever makes its way to you, I want you to know that you are an absolutely amazing nurse and you are wonderful at what you do, you are one of the rare ones that truly have a desire and passion behind your every move. You made a wonderful impact on us and our visit there. I wish you the best and hope you never change! You are perfect just the way you are, I wish there were many more of you! Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart!
