He finds creative solutions to help accommodate as best he can the scheduling needs of our staff and, in turn, support the importance of work-life balance.
I believe Jason Yada has been the epitome of being an exceptional nurse through his leadership and cultivator of community on the Medical Unit for a majority of his 17 years here at Seattle Children’s. He has been a unit charge nurse on the night shift for most of those years, providing support and guidance to numerous newer nurses to the profession and specialty of pediatrics.

• Pre- and post-COVID, he has orchestrated a number of annual and sporadic opportunities for our staff to get together, have fun, and celebrate. Being a big sports fan, he annually and independently orchestrates a SCHMU outing to T-Mobile Park for a Seattle Mariners game with turnouts of staff, friends, and family from 60 to 80 members! With these orchestrated get-togethers, he mindfully fosters a connection between the two Medical Units at Seattle Children’s following our physical and specialty separation a number of years ago.

• A more recent get together event he’s created is “SCHMUches and Pooches” where he hosts at his home a barbeque get together with staff, friends, family and most importantly their beloved pets. Providing him the opportunity to share food, fun, and pet therapy all in one.

• He has been essentially the lead unit scheduler, where he continues to be a support to our staff by helping guide them in their scheduling needs. He finds creative solutions to help accommodate as best he can the scheduling needs of our staff and, in turn, support the importance of work-life balance. This, of course, in turn allows for the staff to be at their best to provide the great care our patients and families appreciate.

• Back in the day when there were fewer male nurses, a notable minority in the nursing profession here at Seattle Children’s, he led the creation of a support group affectionately labeled MoSCH, Men of Seattle Children’s Hospital. We got together for dinner, sporting events, and barbecues to connect and support one another.

Jason has been an exceptional teammate, peer, and friend all these 17 years to me and all of those around him. I am confident we all agree and support that he has demonstrated being an exceptional nurse by supporting the staff in so many ways, that they in turn are able to provide the excellent care the patients and families need and appreciate.
