Jayne received an elderly patient from the OR who had just had a hip replacement and appeared to be sedated for an exteded period of time.Once the patient had met the discharge criteria and could have been trasferred to the floor, Jayne kept him in recovery because she was concerned that he might not be able to tolerate the PCA pump once he was discharge to the room. During the lengthy stay in PACU she kept his spouse updated even allowing brief visits at bedside, which appeared to have a calming effect on her as well as the patient. While in PACU he developed some dysrhythmia's and had an acute ST elevated myacardial infarct she immediately notified anesthesia, got a cardiology consult, who placed the patient on the heparin drip and rushed him to the cath lab where he was stented and trasferred to I.C.U. Due to her caring compassion and concern for the patient he subsequently lived to see another day. Jayne's coworker Tammy believes that if he had not been held in the PACU for so long and would have been trasferred to the floor that the outcome would nothave been as favorable because he would not have been on a telemetry monitor. Tammy is very proud to have Hayne as a co-worker and honored to call her her friend. She believes that Jayne exemplifies everthing that the Daisy award stands for, not just with this patient but with all of her patients.
