Jean had a young patient who is in her 30's. This patient was recently diagnosed with acute lymphoma after many unpleasant tests. On the day Jean was her nurse, this patient was extremely upset in tears and told Jean that that day was supposed to be her graduation day if she had not been so sick. Jean patiently spent lot of time with her and provided great support. Jean encouraged her to continue to pursue her dream, and her hospital experience will one day help her better understand from both patient side and nurse's side. What a great story! Jean is great at supporting patients and meets their needs, she makes sure her patient is recovering both physically and emotionally.
Jean is such a great patient advocate, she won't let anything small to slip off her mind as long as it benefits her patient. One of her patients had a new pacer placed, then had a post-op x-ray done right after the procedure. The next day the cardiologist came in to discharge the patient. Jean requested another chest x-ray because the patient complained of a little shortness of breath last night. Surprisingly, the chest x-ray showed a pneumothorax, which brought immediate attention of the doctors and the patient was sent down to have a chest tube placed right away. Jean saved her patient's life.
