A family visiting from Korea was in a motor vehicle accident. Both parents were hospitalized in our ICU and their two children, ages 3 and 6, were placed in our Pediatric Unit. These children were traumatized by the event, in a strange place and only spoke Korean. Jeannie was very willing to take time from her busy day and full patient load to go to the various units to translate for the children, parents and staff. She made herself available several times during and after her shifts and even came in on her day off to talk to and comfort the children. Jeannie went so far as to write out a chart for staff listing common Korean words with English comparisons. She also established what the children liked to eat and took the children to visit their mother. She was extremely caring, tender and reassuring. You could see the children become calmer in Jeannie's presence.
Thank You, Jeannie, for being there for this family and helping all involved to serve them as best we could. You are an inspiration when it comes to teamwork and providing optimum care! You are truly a blessing!
