Jenn was calm and reassuring, and also very clear in her communication and explaining what was happening.
Jenn was my main nurse during my birth experience, and she was absolutely phenomenal. When I was first admitted, I was dehydrated and the care team had trouble finding my veins for IV placement. When Jenn began her shift and realized I'd be a hard stick, instead of trying herself, she called in the vascular access team to avoid another re-do and miss. The vascular access team came and was able to quickly and painlessly place the IV. I so appreciated that she recommended this course of action and didn't try to stick me.
From the time I was admitted, my baby's heartbeat and vitals weren't as stable as the care team wanted them to be, and because her vitals weren't stabilizing quickly, my doctor prepared us in case we had to move to a c-section. Throughout my labor, Jenn was calm and reassuring, and also very clear in her communication and explaining what was happening. She advocated for me. She was my cheerleader. I can be chatty when I'm nervous and Jenn never made me feel like I was bugging her or taking her away from other things.
Ultimately, Jenn helped us deliver a healthy baby girl, and my husband and I will always remember her compassion, confidence, and the great care she provided us and our daughter.
I had no idea at the time, but the following day I shared positive feedback about Jenn with the maternity team and learned I was Jenn's first solo patient. I'm honored to have been her first mom, and I hope that means she'll remember us as much as we'll remember her.
