I stepped out of my car just after having been hit by a larger vehicle. I was dazed and injured. There was so much to think about all at once. Then, a nurse in BayCare blue scrubs walked over to me and asked if I was all right. I told her that I wasn’t ok, that I could tell I was hurt. She called 911. Then she asked if there was anyone she could call for me. I got her on my phone, and she called my son. She said he already knew. My iPhone had just alerted him that I had been in a severe accident and had sent him a map of where I was. She gave him more details and said I would call him back when I knew more. She then offered to take photos of my damaged car. I hadn’t even thought of that. She was a calming influence in the middle of the chaos of a car accident in an intersection. She did for me all of the things I would have done for myself if I had been capable of it. She helped me get onto the stretcher to go to SFBH ED just down the road.

This nurse was an angel in a time when I really needed one. I knew when I saw her blue scrubs that I was about to receive some much-needed help. She was calm, professional, gentle, and caring. She was the embodiment of BayCare values, even though she was not on the clock. It was not her responsibility to stop at a random car accident. Jenn is a shining example of what BayCare asks employees to be and what we ourselves strive to be: compassionate, professional, find solutions, honor humanity, and help others in our community. Jenn is an asset to SFBH, BayCare, and our community. She made all the difference in a difficult situation just by being herself.
