The care Jennifer provided to my 77-year-old father after his laminectomy was absolutely exceptional. I am a fellow RN and when I arrived into town my dad was on post op day 3 (his anticipated discharge date) but had backtracked significantly overnight. He was in excruciating pain, which was debilitating. He needed 2 assists to get up and would not eat or drink. He was also drugged out of his mind on Oxycontin. I asked Jennifer if my dad could not receive some Motrin for his pain (he was on Heparin shots, so I thought the Motrin might be contraindicated). The next time the doctor came, Jennifer got the order for Motrin and my dad's pain level went from 9 to 2. PT had also been discontinued the day before, so Jennifer got an order to start it again. She also said the walker that PT gave my dad was too small for him and called for a bigger one, which was provided. Her assessment skills were top notch. She is always positive and upbeat and extremely supportive of both the patient and the family. As a seasoned nurse, she advocates fiercely for her patients. She said, "There's no way I'm letting him go home today." (on day 3). Fortunately, once the pain was under control my dad made rapid progress and will be discharged to rehab today post-op day 4. I will remember Jennifer and the excellent care she provided, she is exceptional in her nursing practice.
