She cared for my husband during a very challenging time. My husband is twenty-eight years old and has terminal cancer, which causes him severe chronic pain among numerous other issues. He is admitted frequently and often experiences fear and anxiety while hospitalized. She was a godsend to us. She is kind and compassionate, and made him feel comfortable. She was attentive to his pain, including often going to the pharmacy herself so that he wouldn’t have to wait for his medications. She showed genuine caring and took joy in our wins, such as when a procedure was a success and she was overjoyed for us. She found the balance between being attentive and available, while also clustering his care and allowing him to rest and enjoy the company of his family. She is upbeat and cheery, while also being sensitive to his complex illness and situation.

As a nurse myself, I understand that I can often be the “difficult family member,” as I am very cautious when it comes to his treatment. Instead of being annoyed by my questions and concerns, Jennifer was empathetic and expressed how wonderful it was that my husband has someone to advocate for him. I don’t usually feel comfortable leaving the hospital when he’s a patient, but her diligence enabled me to go home without worry. I could trust that if he was in pain or needed anything while I was gone, Jennifer would advocate for his needs and see that he received excellent care.

I have worked in healthcare for eight years and cared for my husband for three, so I speak from experience when I say that people like her are not common. She made a very big difference in the hospital experience for both my husband and myself. I have never seen him so relaxed and comfortable during a hospital stay, and it was certainly due in significant part to Jennifer. There are not adequate words for what that means to me and how much I appreciate her care.
