Jen treated me kindly and did not judge me. She did what she needed to do so I could receive the best care, and I did.
I was recently seen in the clinic for a condition, and it has been worsening. Jen was my nurse. I was having a difficult time at the appointment and Jen was welcoming and empathetic. Being a co-worker, she shared with me some things she had noticed herself. This made me feel I had come to the right place, and she sincerely wanted to help. Jen listened, was calm and respectful, and offered suggestions. Before Jen left the room, she personally wished me well. Jen made me feel I wasn't just another patient but a person who was genuinely compassionate about myself and what I was experiencing.
Jen took the information from me that she needed to make the provider aware of my situation. She worked well with the provider and at the time, she was the nurse for a few providers that day. She was respectful by first asking me if I would be willing to answer the questions she needed completed before she even started asking them. She could have easily just started asking questions and documenting them without even asking my permission.
Jen demonstrates the seven core values of Essentia:
Quality: She did her documentation thoroughly, so the provider was aware of my situation.
Respect: She sensed what I was going through that day and was respectful of my situation and how I felt.
Hospitality: Jen has a very pleasant demeanor and is attentive.
Teamwork: Jen was the nurse for more than one provider that day and was working as a team member to assist them.
Stewardship: Jen was sure to get as much info as she could, so the information was there for the provider to save asking me more questions, which would have made the visit more uncomfortable.
Justice: Jen treated me kindly and did not judge me. She did what she needed to do so I could receive the best care, and I did.
Jennifer Beckman was honored with the DAISY Award for her extraordinary care that includes collaboration, respect, and compassion for her patients.
She was kind and empathetic to my situation. When I was having a difficult day, she helped me feel at ease and treated me as if I was the only patient at the time. Jen was genuine and not just doing her job. That day, she was the nurse for more than one provider and never made me feel like I was holding her up. I felt she went over and above in the compassion she gives her patients. Essentia is fortunate to have a nurse like her.
