This gesture brought tears to his eyes, he was so thankful and appreciated the thought and attention to detail that Jennifer showed him.
In this time of COVID where random acts of kindness between strangers are sometimes as rare as a unicorn, it is important to focus on the little things that make not only our day better but the day of our patients and colleagues. On 3 south we see a lot of the same faces time and time again, relationships are built and nurtured over months and in some cases years. We recently had a patient who upon discharge would be going to a shelter. Jennifer Betts stepped up and took the lead, with the help of her colleagues and some creative investigative skills she created a going home discharge care package that consisted of everything this patient needed. In his brand-new backpack, he had personal hygiene products, items to protect him from COVID, and healthy cardiac protective food options. This gesture brought tears to his eyes, he was so thankful and appreciated the thought and attention to detail that Jennifer showed him. Nowadays it's so much easier to look the other way to be distracted by how busy we are and to see humans but not humanity. Jennifer, you are a DAISY Nurse because what you did reminds us all that goodness still exists, it also reaffirms the last line of our nursing pledge which asks us to devote ourselves to the welfare of those committed to our care.
